Get your money back from Sezmi Corporation!

"Thank you for contacting Sezmi about Sezmi's personal TV service shutdown.
Unfortunately you don't qualify for our buyback program. Sezmi will buy back equipment up to $150 to customers who have bought their Sezmi equipment six months ago or less. These customers must be able to provide proof of purchase.
When you no longer want to use your recorder, you can recover some of your hardware cost by removing the 1 TB hard drive and reformat it to use in your computer or sell it.
If you have any questions, please only respond to this email.
Regards,
Sezmi Customer Care"

Unfortunately, my Sezmi was 7 months old, but I can still use the 1 TerraByte Hard Drive which is probably worth $100 anyway on my computer or sell it on e-bay.

If your Sezmi is under 6 months old, you can $150 for it from the company, which is enough to buy a TiVo for $99 plus pay for 5 months of service at the "Antenna only" rate of $9.99 per month!  To get this rate, please use the following link for further information.  Its the only website that I have seen that puts it in writing.  But ACT NOW because its got to be activated online by November 15th!

Best Replacement I have found for Sezmi DVR so far!

The best replacement that I have found for the Sezmi DVR is the Tivo DVR.  The catch is that Tivo charges $20 per month for their programming guide service.  For that price, Cable TV is almost a deal.   However, TiVo has a special offer right now (only through Nov. 15th) that will allow you to activate a box for $9.99 per month instead.  That's only $5 more than the Sezmi service was!   TiVo is better because it gives you everything you had with Sezmi plus Amazon, Netflix, Blockbuster, and Pandora.

Sezmi is discontinuing its consumer service

What does this mean for me?

You will no longer be billed for Sezmi service. As of September 26th, you will no longer be able to utilize the programming guide and your digital media recorder will no longer operate as a recorder. You will be able to view movies and shows you have already saved to your recorder and YouTube access will not be affected. Between now and November 1st, you may rent any movies or shows at no charge to you. After November 1, Sezmi’s On Demand catalog will no longer be available but you will be able to use your Sezmi system to view all programming you have saved to the media recorder.

So, you've just lost your favorite Television accessory - the Sezmi DVR!  What are your choices now?

1) watch TV when your favorite programs are on.  view lots of ads.  hope your show doesn't conflict with bowling night.

2) Get a replacement DVR - Tivo, Channel Master, etc.

3) Build your own DVR using a computer, big hard drive, TV tuner, some software, etc.  Spend lots of time and money working on something that the wife will not be able to figure out how to use.

What are you going to do?
